Apex, an organization of private jet operators has filed a petition with Aero – Airport Economic Regulatory Authority – to challenge the penalty recently imposed on business jets by the Mumbai International Airport that overextend their stay or for extended use of parking bays. The penalty charges began being assessed on July 1st and range from 1,000 to 15,000 rupees per hour.

The Mumbai airport currently has 28 parking bays with around 100 private aircraft parked. Private aircraft that are non-Mumbai based are subject to the new fines. The fines are meant to deter private aircraft from using parking slots assigned to them beyond the amount given and discourage unauthorized parking at the airport. Its possible that some charter companies would be forced to close if the penalties are not revoked.
