Jet Market in India Still Strong

The private jet market in India, while down some from last year, remains strong. For the past year individuals and jet charter firms bought 20 private planes and helicopters for around $250 million. While that is down 25% year over year it the reason it was down was because of the value of orders delivered to charter company Invision Air in the previous year.

While the number of billionaires in the country has dropped in 2012, big corporations continue to recognize the value of private aviation. Companies such as Larsen & Toubro, Bajaj Auto and Zee Entertainment continued to add to their fleets.

Business aircraft manufacturers are predicting that India will become the sixth largest market for private aircraft by 2021. India is already the second largest market in Asia with 154 jets. China has 215.

While companies in India are recognizing the value of private jets the market is hindered by government regulations, high import taxes and duties and long delays for aircraft imports.
